On the occasion of state foundation day on November 1, 2020 Chhattisgarh government launched a new scheme for distribution of fortified rice in the state. The launch of this scheme was announced virtually by CMO Chhattisgarh, Under this scheme Mr. Bhupesh Baghel. Under this scheme fortified rice will be distributed through Public Distribution System (PDS) and other Public welfare activities. This scheme is mainly launched keeping in mind the malnutrition and anaemia conditions in the state. This scheme is currently launched on a pilot basis in Kondagaon district.

- Fortified rice will be distributed through ration shops and fair price shops

Scheme Details:
- Chhattisgarh was declared as an independent state on November 1, 2000. Thus, it is celebrated as Chhattisgarh Statehood Day or State Foundation Day
- On this occasion, Chhattisgarh government launched Distribution of Fortified Rice scheme
- The launch was announced virtually by CM Bhupesh Baghel
- The main aim of the launch of this scheme is to keep a check on the malnutrition and anaemia levels in the state
- It aims at distributing nutritious food item – Fortified rice, in the state through Public Distribution System (PDS)
- Fortified Rice is a mixture of iron, vitamin B-12 and folic acid enriched fortified rice kernel (FRK) and this fulfills the nutritional requirements which thus helps to control the malnutrition and anaemia problems
- 2 rice mills have been set up for the work of rice blending for fortification
- Currently this scheme is implemented on pilot basis in Kondagaon district
- Thus, the scheme will thereby tend to reduce the malnutrition levels in the state
- Improved health conditions and productivity will be thereby achieved in the state in the long run
