Ensuring Food Security Scheme Rice @ Rs.1 per kg

The Ensuring Food Security Scheme is started by Odisha State Government (Ministry of Food and Public Distribution) for providing food security to poor people of the state. The objective of the scheme is to provide subsidized rice to the targeted beneficiaries like families living below poverty line, Poor families of undivided Koraput, Balangir, and Kalahandi (KBK) districts, borders of ST and SC hostels, differently abled persons and fishermen affected due to a ban on fishing for Olive Ridley Conservation. The Government of Odisha initially started distribution of rice at Rs. 2 per kg but launched the scheme on a massive scale by reducing the price to Rs. 1 per kg with effect from February 01, 2013

Benefits of Ensuring Food Security Scheme:

  • Ensuring Food Security Scheme provides benefits in the form of providing subsidized rice to the poor people of the state. The more benefits are given below
  • The scheme covers beneficiaries in all 30 districts of the state. In which poor people are provided rice at Rs. 1 per kg

Required eligibility and conditions for applying Ensuring Food Security Scheme:
Those people come under one of the categories mentioned below are eligible:

  1. All Below Poverty Line (BPL) families of the state (36,90,060 BPL families)
  2. All Above Poverty Line (APL) card holders of eight KBK districts (5,35,402 APL families), Except the creamy layer
  3. Poorest of the poor families covered under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) Scheme (12,53,015 families), Covering the entire state
  4. Boarders of ST & SC hostels (4,15,357 borders), Covering the entire state
  5. Differently abled persons (78,269 persons), Covering the entire state
  6. Fishermen affected due to a ban on fishing for Olive Ridley Conservation in the coastal areas of the state

  2. BPL ration card
  3. APL ration card
  4. Caste certificate
  5. Aadhar card
  6. Antyodaya Anna Yojana scheme card
  7. Disability certificate
