Hostel Scheme for Children of Migrant Sugarcane Workers, Maharashtra

To provide free stay to the children in government hostels thereby assisting them and ensuring their welfare

On June 2, 2021, Maharashtra state cabinet approved to revive the hostel scheme for migrant sugarcane workers. Under this scheme, the children of migrant sugar cane workers will be provided with permanent residential accommodation in the form of hostels in the state. Scheme details were provided by Social Justice Minister Dhananjay Munde. This scheme was initially approved by previous government in power in the year 2019, but due to some reasons it could not be implemented back then. Now the scheme is being revived and currently 10 hostels for boys and girls separately will be started from this academic year. These hostels will be started in rented buildings for now as building new hostels will require additional time. The hostels will be operational in Beed, Ahmednagar, Jalna, Nanded, Parbhani, Osmanabad, Latur, Aurangabad, Nashik and Jalgaon.
