The State Government of Kerala started Hunger-Free City project for poor people in association with Social Justice Department, Kerala. The Hunger-Free City aims to provide highly subsidized meals once a day to the people at different centres in a city which is started by the Kerala government. This project ensuring that no person in the city goes without having a meal in a day. This project initially started in Kozhikode city and government spent an amount more than Rs.65 Lakhs to set up the modern kitchen. The modern kitchen has the seating capacity of 350 persons at a time. It is proposed to provide a rice-based meal with vegetable curry during lunch time and patients get their meal free of cost. In this project, the government has the target to provide free food to poor, aged, women, children and cancer patients. The food prepared by the inmates will be taken to the hospital with the help of NGOs, NSS volunteers and student police cadets and the distribution will have to be taken up by the Health officials. Kerala is known as god own country and government of Kerala has started a various scheme for the welfare of people. Hunger-Free City is also a great initiative for the people of the state
