Chhattisgarh government launched a new scheme for support and welfare of the Forest Dwellers in the state. CMO, Chhattisgarh, Mr. Bhupesh Baghel announced the launch of Indira Van Mitan Yojana on August 9,2020. The main aim of the scheme is to provide self-employment opportunities to the forest dwellers thereby making them self-reliant. Under this scheme, groups will be formed in 10,000 villages mainly the tribal areas and all the forest based economic activities will be conducted by these groups.

Scheme Objectives:

Scheme Benefits:
- This scheme will provide self-employment opportunities mainly to the youth from tribal areas
- Instead of timber, fruits and vegetation plants will be planted in forests so as to increase the income of the forest dwellers
- It will help them make self-reliant and develop in the long run.
- Youth will be given priority under this scheme, thereby ensuring welfare and reducing the unemployment rates

- Indira Van Mitan Yojana was launched on the occasion of World Tribal Day
- This scheme will function in groups of young tribal individuals
- These groups will be formed in 10,000 villages of tribal areas across the state
- Under this scheme, all the forest based economic activities like arrangements for procurement, processing and marketing of the forest produce will be done by these groups
- Forest product processing centres will be formed for every tribal development block of the state
- These groups will manage trees, collect the forest produce from the trees and get economic benefits through it
- The estimated cost of a unit will be Rs. 10 lakhs
- For establishing forest produce processing units in 85 development blocks, Rs. 8.5 crores will be assigned
- This scheme ensures self-reliance and welfare of the forest dwellers in the state.
