Kerala Budget 2019-20 Highlights: 25 projects proposed for Mission Nava Kerala

Kerala Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac tabled state government budget 2019

The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic front (LDF) led Kerala Government presented Kerala budget 2019-20. The Finance Minister of the state TM Thomas Isaac presented the budget in the state assembly. This is the first budget post floods in the state. Many welfare schemes along with Mission Nava Kerala (New Kerala) announced.

Kerala Budget 2019-20 Highlights:

  • Rs. 2,500 crores for agricultural sector
    • Rs. 1,000 crores for various agricultural schemes
    • Rs. 167 crores for crops & Rs. 71 crores for vegetable development
  • Universal health security scheme
    • Rs. 1,406 crores for comprehensive Health Security Scheme
    • Karunya Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme to provide healthcare protection for all families in Kerala
    • Hike of Rs. 500 for ASHA workers
  • Housing for all
    • Incomplete housing projected to be completed
    • Budget of Rs. 1,296 crore for housing for landless & homeless
  • Education sector
    • Rs. 2,037.91 crore for improving amenities in education sector
    • Rs. 170 crore for expansion of infrastructure facilities at schools
  • KSRTC & PSUs
    • Only 8 of 40 PSUs are profit making
    • Goal is to make 20 PSUs profit making
    • Rs. 527 crores for large & medium scale industries
    • Rs. 299 crore for public sector
    • Rs. 1000 crore for restructuring KSRTC
  • New Kuttanad Package
    • Budget of Rs. 1,000 crores for one-time cleaning of backwaters & other water resources
  • Kerala Bank
    • A poll promise of the LDF party
    • Single large cooperative bank network in Kerala to become reality
  • Placement of 10,000 members from scheduled caste communities
  • Rs. 15,600 crores for industrial parks & startups
  • Rs 1,420 crore for women empowerment
  • All the welfare pensions are increased by Rs. 100 in the budget 2019
  • Rs. 1,000 crores will be spent on “Rebuild Kerala” after recent floods in the state
unemployment
