Modi Government has announced several women empowerment schemes. The central cabinet has announced an important scheme called Mahila Shakti Kendra Yojana for rural women. The Mahila Shakti Kendra scheme will empower rural women through community engagements so that they can realize their full potential.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao successful in 161 districts will be implemented in other districts as well:
The MSK will work at the various levels; at the national level it will provided support to the state government on various women related issues and on the district and block levels it will provide support to MSK centers and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. The government is planning to take help from students too to spread awareness about Mahila Shakti Kendra in remote areas. Students can volunteer to work for MSK and they will be given appreciation certificates for the work they carry out. Government is planning to take help of 3 lakh students for MSK.
Women Empowerment Mission (WEM) announced by Ministry Women and Child Development:
The cabinet also approved several important steps for women empowerment. Women Empowerment Mission (WEM) was approved by the Women and Child Development Ministry. The WEM is approved for the year 2017-18 and 2019-20.
The cabinet also decided to increase the coverage of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao yojana. The scheme was earlier implemented in 161 districts in the country and was very successful. Rs. 3,636.85 crores are allocated for the BBBP for year 2017-18 & 2019-20.
190 Hostels to be opened for working women:
Government is planning to open hostels for working women in major cities. 190 such hostels will be built which can 19,000 working women.
One Stop Centers for women in distress:
Government will open One Stop Centers for women in distress. Initially they will be opened in 150 districts across country. These centers will be connected to Women Helplines which will be available 24×7. Women police from state police department will contribute to the initiative.
