The Central government sponsored National Scheme of Welfare of Fisherman introduce to provide financial assistance to fishers for construction of house, community hall for recreation and common working place and installation of tube-wells for drinking water and assistance during lean period through saving cum relief component. This scheme under covers the development of model fisherman villages, group accident insurance and saving cum relief component.
Benefits of National scheme of welfare of fisherman:
- Development of Model fisherman village: Under this section, fisherman will be provided with basic needs such as houses, drinking water and component for recreation and work
- Group accident insurance for active fisherman: Under this section, State Government will insured for Rs 50,000/- against death or permanent total disability and Rs 25,000/- for partial total disability
- Saving cum relief: Under this section, relief is to be given to fisherman uniformly for 3 months of fishing ban period. Thus, Rs 1800/- will be distributed to the fisherman in three equal monthly instalment of Rs 600/- each
Eligibility of getting benefits of National Scheme of Welfare of Fishermen:
- Active fisherman identified by the State Government
- Fishermen should belong to below poverty line and landless fishermen
- Fishermen owning land may also be considered for allotment of houses under the scheme
- Fisherman should be a member of Cooperative Society/Federation/Welfare Society that has fishing rights in water bodies controlled by the State
- Fisherman does not own mechanized fishing boat/beach landing craft and is below 60 years of age

- Application in prescribed form
- Professional cum residential certificate
- Photograph of the applicant with spouse if married
- Vessel registration certificate duly issued by Directorate of Fisheries
- Current net licence payment receipt
- Copy of ration card
- Income certificate
- Photograph (2 Copies)
