On June 7, 2021, Income Tax Department launched its new e-filing portal. This new portal aims at providing seamless modern experience to the users. It aims at assisting in faster processing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and quick refunds to the tax payers. The new portal can be accessed at www.incometax.gov.in but is yet to be operational. The new portal will enable more new features for enhanced user experience. In the new portal, the tax payers will get a single dashboard for all the activities and thereby would be able to handle all the activities therein. It is a user-friendly portal with new features to quickly update the profile, detailed FAQs, use manuals, call centre service, etc. New tax payment system is about to be launched on June 18, 2021 for benefitting the users.

- The main objective of the portal is to provide a user-friendly platform to the consumers for giving seamless experience
- The portal will function as a one stop window for easy and quick processing of ITRs and quick refunds to the tax payers

Newly added features on the portal:
- New ITR e-filing portal will provide a new user-friendly experience for the tax payers
- Through this portal the tax payers will be able to experience quick processing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) followed by quick refunds for the same
- Single dashboard will be provided to the tax payer where all the details will be viewed
- All the interactions, uploads and pending actions can be viewed by the tax payer on the dashboard itself
- Quicker profile updating facility will be provided
- This facility will help the tax payer to update the profile with the details of income, salary, house property, business/ profession
- These updated details will then be used in pre filling the ITR automatically
- Faceless scrutiny/ appeals will also be made available for the tax payers wherein the tax payer will not be required to visit the office in person
- Functionalities for filing Income tax forms, add tax professionals, submit responses to notices in faceless scrutiny will be available
- Detailed FAQs, user manuals, videos, chatbot/ live agent will also be provided or assisting the tax payer
- Dedicated call centre service will also be made available for assisting the real time issues of the tax payers
Important Details:
- Income tax department launched its new ITR e-filing portal on June 7, 2021
- The launch of this new portal was announced in the month of May and all the interactions of the tax payers were paused between June 1 to June 7, 2021 as per the prior notice
- The ITR portal was previously accessed @incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
- Now the new portal is accessed @incometax.gov.in, it is yet to be operational
- The Central Board of Direct Taxes introduced the highlights of the new e-filing portal in its press release
- The new ITR e-filing portal is a new one stop tax payer friendly window for the tax payers and their requirements
- The new portal will tend to provide seamless modern experience to the users/ tax payers
- Various new features for are added on the portal for providing a better user experience
- Free of cost ITR preparation software will also be made available with interactive questions to help taxpayers for ITRS 1, 4 (online and offline) and ITR 2 (offline)
- Preparation for ITRS 3,5,6 and 7 will also be made available shortly
- New tax payment system is about to be launched on June 18, 2021 for benefiting
- A new mobile app of the portal for the ease of the users is also planned to be launched.
