April 24th is celebrated as the National Panchayati Raj Day, on the same occasion PM Narendra Modi launched a new scheme- ‘Swamitva Yojana’. This scheme aims to define the ownership of residential land properties in rural areas using Drones! It is also mainly a solution for maintaining the records related to ownership’s of land properties are correctly.

Scheme Objectives:
- The scheme aims to claim ownership and maintain records of all the residential property owned by villagers
- Use of technology in villages will lead to rural development
- It aims to reducing disputes in villages over property issues
- Such digital record of land owned by villagers will also help in determining Property tax
Scope of the scheme:
- This scheme aims to include all the 6.62 lakh villages in India in a long run
- Currently, for a trial basis 6 states are included in this scheme
- The states covered are Maharashtra, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand
- The respective state governments of these 6 states will provide a list of villages to be included in this scheme.
Key Points and Benefits:
- This scheme is implemented under Indian government’s Ministry of Panchayati Raj
- With the implementation of this scheme the land owner will get the legal rights of his property even if he doesn’t have the papers/ documents to claim his property
- Due to this scheme land owners will be able to use their land as their assets
- These pieces of owned residential lands can be used for taking loans from banks with minimum documents
- Under this scheme, all the residential land owners will be given their own property cards, which will denote their ownership of the land and this will avoid illegal capture of property by any third person.
- Google mapping technique will be used for capturing the land details through Drones
- After maintaining all the land records, property tax can be charged respectively.
- This property tax thus charged will be used for developing rural infrastructure.
- This scheme will help in improving the quality of Gram Panchayat Development Plans
