Samagra Shiksha Yojana: an Integrated School Education Scheme for school education

The Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javdekar launched an integrated school education scheme for school education called Samagra Shiksha Yojana. The scheme includes school education from pre-school till 12th class. The scheme is the integration of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA). These separate schemes were primary and secondary eduction. Now they are combined in to the one scheme. The minister also promised to increase the budget for the scheme by 20% from next year.

What is Samagra Shiksha Yojana? An integrated scheme for school education replacing and combining separate schemes at primary and secondary school levels the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) along with the scheme for teachers called as and Teacher Education (TE).

Samagra Shiksha Yojana Highlights:

  • Focuses on the digital education
  • Importance is given to the digital education using smart class and digital boards
  • The scheme will provide holistic education for complete development of children at the school levels
  • The budget Rs 34,000 crore is given for the academic year 2018-19 as opposed to the budget of Rs. Rs 28,000 crore in 2017-18
  • The budget will be further increased to Rs 41,000 crore in 2019-20
  • 11,50,000 schools under the scheme would receive sports grants
  • Annual grant of Rs. 5,000 – Rs. 20,000 will be provided for strengthening libraries in the schools
  • The amount of grant for primary is Rs. 5,000 where as Rs. 10,000 will be given for upper primary
  • Rs. 25,000 grant will be given for SSC and HSC schools under the scheme
  • Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya scheme: a scheme for girls from the disadvantaged sections to provide education and hostel facility. Now the scheme is extended to cover class 6 till class 12th
