On October 8, 2020, Thursday, CMO Assam, Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal launched “Swanirbhar Naari: Atmanirbhar Asom” scheme for the women belonging to economically backward section of the state. This scheme aims at empowering such women. It aims to create sustainable assets including individual as well as community assets. This scheme will benefit around 4 lakh families in the first phase.

Scheme Objectives and Benefits:
- The main objective of the scheme is to improve living conditions of the women from economically backward sections
- This scheme aims to create individual as well as community assets under MGNREGA
- Sustainable assets will be created and around 4 lakh families will be benefited in the first phase
- 5 identified activities for individual assets and 20 activities for community assets will be implemented in the Development blocks
- Assistance will be provided to the economically disadvantaged or downtrodden women to become self-reliant
- Thus, the scheme aims at overall development of the women belonging to the financially weaker sections in the state in the long run
Scheme Details:
- “Swanirbhar Naari: Atmanirbhar Asom” scheme is launched by CMO Assam, Mr, Sarbananda Sonowal on October 8, 2020
- Under this scheme sustainable assets will be created thereby benefiting around 4 lakh families in Phase 1
- Around 3.72 lakh individual and 822 community assets will be created under the scheme
- This will be under MGNREGA with convergence of various state government schemes and missions including Assam State Livelihood Mission, Agriculture & Horticulture, Fishery, Environment & Forest, Handloom & Textiles, Sericulture, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, etc
- 5 activities will be implemented for individual assets across all the Development Blocks
- 20 activities will be implemented for community assets in selected Development Blocks
- Monitoring committees will be set up for keeping a check on the implementation of the scheme
- This committee will keep a check on the activities from panchayat level to state level under this scheme
- PRI will ensure effective implementation of the scheme
- It will extend support to the women SHG beneficiaries
- CM announced that strict actions will be taken against the panchayats involved in corrupt activities or those which are not implementing the scheme with proper awareness
- Awards for the best 3 panchayats are also announced
- Awards will be as 3lakh, 2lakh and 1lakh to the first 3 best panchayats
- CM also said that women personalities in the state like Sati Joymati, Sati Sadhani, Mangri Orang, Kanaklata Baruah, Indira Miri, etc have exemplified women power
- CM state that women in the state are very hardworking and urged them to show commitment and dedication in implementing the scheme
