Vidyanjali-(School Volunteer Programme) is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of School Education & Literacy to enhance community and private sector involvement in Government run elementary schools across the country under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. This programme has been envisaged to bring together people willing to volunteer their services at schools which really need them. The volunteers will act as mentors, confidantes, and communicators with children. The primary goal of the Vidyanjali scheme is to provide volunteer teachers to those schools, especially the ones that don’t have any educated teachers to assist the kids in their education. The scheme is inviting the people from different background and services to let them share their education and experience with the children to educate them properly. Benefits of Vidyanjali Yojana:
- The biggest benefit of the yojana is to provide educational assistance to those who need it the most. Most of the kids don’t get it due to lack of proper system or money or sometimes infrastructure
- People who are willing to serve the society with the knowledge they possess will get a good channel to share their knowledge with needy people
- Retired people and housewives who can manage to have ample time can now utilize them through attending such noble job
- Kids who are immensely intelligent and talented but don’t get platform to explore can get opportunities to fulfill their dream and pursue their career in future
Eligibility for Vidyanjali Yojana Volunteers:
- All citizens of India such as (retired Professionals, retired government official including retired defense personnel, working professional and homemakers) should apply for Vidyanjali Yojana
- A foreign national of Indian origin person also eligible for this scheme. but, Foreign nationals of Indian origin must ensure that they have an OCI card
- Foreign citizens who are not of Indian origin are not eligible to apply for Volunteer
- Retired professionals, working or self-employed professionals must have graduation degree
- Applicant Homemakers should be minimum high school pass
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age and should have completed schooling (equivalent to class 12th)
Documents required for Vidyanjali Yojana:
- Passport size photo
- PAN card
- Aadhaar card
- Indian passport
- Voter ID
- Domicile certificate
- Qualification certificate
Application procedure for Vidyanjali Yojana :
- A Volunteer can apply online for the Volunteer Programme through the MyGov.in web portal or through a Mobile app to fill the application form only

- Fill up the application form with needful information such as name, contact details, ID proof and such
- Now, submit the form along with other documents
What is the Role of Volunteer?
- Volunteers under the Vidyanjali programme will offer their services to government schools without receiving compensation. The Volunteers conduct activities such as Reading to children, helping children with creative writing, Public speaking, Playacting, preparing storybooks with children
Selection procedure for Volunteer:
- The selection process will be supervised by the Block Education Officer and the headmaster of the concerned schools
- Once the registration is done Block Education Officer( BEO) select the applicants
- After consulting with the headmaster of proposed school, BEO appoints the volunteers
- The volunteers are then sent to the schools only after the head master agrees to them.
- The service span for continuous service 2 weeks or once in a week for 12 weeks
- Once the stipulated time for each volunteer is over, then applicant can apply online again
