Weather Based Fruit Crop Insurance Scheme for Farmers in Maharashtra

Weather Based Fruit Crop Insurance Scheme is launched by the state government of Maharashtra for farmers. This scheme is implemented by agriculture department of Maharashtra. Weather-based fruit crop insurance scheme gives protection to the farmers against untimely rain and climatic conditions. This scheme is implemented all over Maharashtra state. Weather Based Fruit Crop Insurance scheme is applicable for those beneficiaries who have availed loan and this scheme also beneficial for those farmers who have not availed the loan. The government has started to provide fruit crop insurance to the farmers on the pilot basis under Weather Based Horticultural Crop Insurance Scheme (WBHCIS) in 18 districts of Maharashtra. This scheme will cover 80,000 hectares in selected districts. The crops to be covered are orange in Akola and Buldhana, guava in Jalna and Buldhana, and sweet lime in Aurangabad, Jalna, Nanded, Parbhani, Beed, and Buldhana districts. This scheme also covers season for fruits like grapes, banana, orange, sweet lime, pomegranate, mango and cashew nuts. Weather Based Fruit Crop Insurance Scheme offers insurance cover to the farmers against losses caused by sudden weather conditions during the crop cycle. All farmers in Maharashtra state are eligible for this scheme

Documents Required for Weather-Based Fruit Crop Insurance Scheme:

  1. Applicant Aadhaar card
  2. Applicant 7/12
  3. Bank account details
  4. Passport size photos

Application procedure:

  1. A farmer should contact bank for Weather-Based Fruit Crop Insurance Scheme
  2. Farmers should contact department of district agriculture or Taluka agriculture officer
