Tamil Nadu CM launched Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit Scheme for the pregnant women in the state. The objective of the scheme is to make sure that the necessary iron tonic & nutritional supplements are given to the pregnant women. The scheme is expected to reduce the maternal & infant mortality rates. Eight lakh women will get benefited from the scheme yearly.

Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit:
- Iron tonic & nutritional supplements in two phases
- Phase I: 12 weeks of pregnancy
- Phase II: Between 16 to 20 weeks of pregnancy
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicable only for the permanent residents of Tamil Nadu
- Applicable only for the pregnant women
Similar scheme called Amma Baby Kit was launched by the EX-CM of the state J. Jayalalithaa. Baby kits are distributed under the scheme to the new born babies. The kit contains soap, oil baby cloths etc. 17 lakh mothers had benefited from the scheme.
The Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit is given under Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit scheme. Apart from the kit financial assistance is also given to the pregnant women. Financial assistance of Rs. 18,000 is also given to the expectant women.
