The government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to replace 15 lakh old low-cost farm pumps with the new energy efficient pumps. The farmer friendly initiative is the Sankranti Gift to the state will cost Rs. 6,000 crore to the state. The scheme will benefit not just to the farmers but also to the citizens of the state as a lot of energy will be saved which can be used for other purposes.
Free energy efficient/solar pumps, a major revolution to revive agriculture in the AP.
The Chief Minister of AP Chandrababu Naidu announced the scheme saying that each pump will cost Rs. 40,000 to the government and will be given to the farmers in the state in the phased manner. The state government and DISCOM will complete the implementation by 2019. AP has already given loan waiver to its farmers along with it the new scheme shows CMs commitment towards farmers in the state.
Solar pump-set connections to the farmers.
The AP government will provide solar pump-set connections to the farmers where ground water table is within a depth of 75 meters. Each solar pump-set costs Rs. 3.12 lakh out of which government will bare Rs. 2.57 lakh and remaining Rs. 55,000 needs to be paid by farmers.
Subsidy for free electricity consumption.
Government will be spending Rs. 25,000 annually on each pump to provide free electricity subsidy.
Energy efficient features/specifications:
- BEE five-star-rated energy-efficient pump sets
- Mobile-operated smart control panel with SIM card so that the pumps can be operated remotely using mobile phones
- Pumps will send SMS in case of any fault
- Farmers can power on/off pumps from anywhere
