Ashramshalas for Schedule Tribe in Gujarat Students launched by Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat. The objective behind launching this scheme, the Schedule Tribe population cannot afford to spend on their children’s education due to their weak economic condition. Thus, the government launched a scheme to give 100% grant to NGOs for starting residential schools, known as Ashramshalas, these schools provide education, boarding, and lodging to tribal students and are fully funded by the state government, though they are run by NGO. The State has 547 Ashramshalas including 95 Uttar Buniyadi Shalas for 9 to 12 standard students and 452 Ashramshalas for 1 to 8 standard students. More than 70,000 students enroll into these residential schools every year. All students belong to Scheduled Tribe and permanent residence of Gujarat state are eligible under this scheme, those who wish to get benefits can apply at Nearest Ashramshalas for Schedule Tribe Students or Nearest Tribal Development Office.
Benefits of Ashramshalas for Schedule Tribe Students in Gujarat:
- This scheme focuses on strengthening education among Scheduled Tribe
- Under this scheme, students are provided with free education, free hostel facilities, free books, free food, free item of daily necessity
- A grant of Rs. 1000 per month is given to the Ashramshalas for every child
- This scheme provides schooling, boarding, and lodging to ST students at a single location so that they can get better employment and also compete with other sections of the society
- Scheme provides free education from class 1 to 12

- All students belong to Scheduled Tribe and permanent residence of Gujarat state are eligible under this scheme
- This scheme is only applicable to Tribal

- Residence proof: Domicile certificate, Electricity bill
- Identity proof: Aadhar card
- BPL ration card (if available)
- Caste certificate
- Birth certificate
- Tribal certificate
- Income certificate
- Schooling certificates: Marksheets
Application procedure:
- This scheme is implemented by Tribal Development Department. Students who wish to get benefits of this scheme can apply at Nearest Tribal Development Office or Nearest Ashramshalas
