Punjab government launched Ayushman Bharat Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana (AB-SBBY) on August 20, 2019. This scheme is a health insurance scheme, under which cashless and paperless treatment is available for availing insurance. 75% of population, nearly 5 lakh families per year were covered under the scheme. On July 16, 2020, CMO Punjab, Mr. Amarinder Singh, approved the new addition of 9.5 lakh farmers and families under the scheme.

Scheme Objectives and Benefits:
- The main objective of the scheme is to provide financial protection to the beneficiaries.
- Cost of Premium of the scheme is borne by Central and State Governments
- It aims to cover about 75% of population of the state
- Benefit of Rs. 5 lakhs is provided to the beneficiaries, in the form of cashless treatment in empanelled hospitals
- 5 lakh farmers and families are newly added to avail the benefit.
- Non severe diseases with 50% of risk of damage are also covered
- It is implemented for helping the poor families
- This scheme has proved to be very helpful in current Covid-19 situations.
How to enroll: There is no enrollment process for this scheme. No form, No Registration.
- The beneficiaries for this scheme are decided as per the database with the state government. This data is provided by Punjab Mandi Board, Small Trader families Union, Excise department, Construction Worker Welfare Board, etc.
- To check if you are eligible to avail the benefits under this scheme, one should enroll, the applicants will have to visit the official portal @ shapunjab.in
- Then click on ‘Is My Family Eligible?’ tab on the home page
- Check the eligibility status by using Aadhaar Card/Ration Card/PAN no./Construction worker ID no./ Journalist ID no. Enter captcha and click on Check Status
- Or one can also check the status by name, fill in the Name, Last 4 digits of Aadhaar no., Select the residing district, and Fathers name. Then Click on Check Status
- One can get to know if His/her name is present in the beneficiary list or not.
Key Points:
- Initially in 2015, 5 lakhs farmers were benefited under this scheme, Now the no. has been raised to 9.5 lakh beneficiaries
- Total 546 private hospitals and 208 government hospitals are empanelled/ Registered under this scheme. Beneficiary can go to any of the hospital got treatment
- Treatment facility is provided up to Rs. 5 lakhs/- which is borne Central and State governments
- No premium is to be paid by the beneficiaries under this scheme.
- Charges for Covid-19 treatment are also capped/limited under this scheme, in the registered hospitals.
