The Government of India has announced FAME India Phase II Scheme – Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric Vehicles. The scheme encourage use of electric & hybrid vehicles. Center government has allocated budget of Rs. 10,000 crore for the program. FAME India Phase I was launched on April 1st 2015 with the budget of Rs. 895 crores. The implementation of the scheme will start from 1st April 2019.

Government will provide upfront incentives on purchase of hybrid & electric vehicles. It will also work on setting up network of electric charging stations in cities & along highways. Under three-wheelers & four-wheelers category the incentives will be given to the commercial & public transport vehicles.
The scheme will benefit 10 lakh electric two-wheelers, 5 lakh three-wheelers, 55,000 four-wheelers & 7,000 buses. The objective of the scheme is to reduce the use of petrol & diesel. FAME scheme will ensure reduction in the use of those vehicles & encourage people to purchase & use electric vehicles.

2,7000 charging stations to be setup in the metros. There will be one charging station in the grid of 3 Km by 3 Km. Charging stations will be available on both side of the highways in every 25 Kms.
The emphasis on the use of electric buses for the public transportation. Incentives will be provided on the operations of the electric buses under the FAME II scheme. In the two-wheelers segment the focus will be on the private vehicles. The benefits will be given only to those vehicles which has advance batteries such as lithium-ion battery & other new technology batteries.
