First Para-National Games under Khelo India Scheme to happen this year in Bengaluru. The objective of the games is to encourage divyang athletes, support them and provide opportunities to them to showcase their talent. The tentative dates announced for the games are between June 28th till July 7th. Earlier this year Khelo India Khelo national games were organized by the Sports Ministry where many talented athletes participates across the country. The event happened for 7 days and was live telecast-ed on the national television.
Dates for First Para-National Games under Khelo India Scheme: 28th June – 7th July 2018
First Para-National Games under Khelo India Scheme Highlights:
- Para-Games will be conducted by the Paralympic Committee of India and will be funded by the Sports Ministry, Government of India
- Both male and female athletes can participate in the games
- The athletes between age group 16 to 40 can participate in the games
- Athletes can participate in the following disciplines: para athletics, badminton, chess, blind judo, para powerlifting, shooting para sport, para swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing
- Each of the disciplines will have all the classifications as per the guidelines by the aegis of the PCI
- Total medal events: 416 (220 for men, 180 for women and 16 for mixed)
- Total number of participants: 2192 (1311 for men, 837 for women and 44 for mixed)
- The Para-National Games will be considered as qualifiers for the Para Asian Games to be held in Jakarta in October
- The Para-National Games will be organized every alternate years
- Para athletes will have most of the medal events (167), followed by para swimming (135)
