JC Bose National Fellowship

JC Bose National Fellowship is started by central government (science and engineering research board) in an attempt to provide a leg up to scientific research and pioneering engineering ideas in the country, the Department of Science and Technology has introduce J.C. Bose National Fellowship, a scholarship named after one of the most brilliant scientists of India, Shri Jagdish Chandra Bose. The scholarship is aimed to identify and promote active scientists and engineers who have exemplary performance records and the desire to continue with research in India. All areas of science and engineering are covered under this program

Benefits of JC Bose National Fellowship:

  • JC Bose National Fellowship will provide financial assistance in terms of benefits like
  • The fellowship will be at a value of 25,000 each month, apart from the regular research income
  • In addition, each fellow will receive a contingency of 10.00 lakh per annum for conferences and other expenses

Required eligibility and conditions for applying JC Bose National Fellowship:

  1. The student should be an Indian national, residing in the country
  2. The applicant should possess a higher degree or equivalent: namely Ph.D. in Science/Engineering, Masters in Engineering or Technology/MD in Medicine, etc. and must have carried out several years of work in the specific area
  3. These fellowships are meant for those who have a proven track-record as evident from their research publications and recognitions
  4. The candidate must have a regular position in an Institute /Organization and should be engaged in research. If he /she is availing any other fellowship, he/she will have to opt for only one of the fellowships
  5. Upper age limit of 68 years for completion of fellowship means applicant can avail benefits of fellowship up-to maximum age of 68 year
  6. It is compulsory for candidates to work at their current employment location

Duration of fellowship:

  1. The initial duration of the fellowship will be for five years. Further extension will depend on the research requirements

Application procedure for JC Bose National Fellowship and document required:
Application procedure:  

  1. The availability of JC Bose Fellowships will be advertised by various academic and research institutions on their websites in order to receive applications from the interested scientists and engineers. The Institutions will subsequently submit their recommended nominations to the Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB)
  2. Individual scientists and engineers can also approach the institutions for forwarding their nominations to SERB for the Fellowship
  3. The nominations of scientists and technologists by the Institutions would be received throughout the year. There is, thus, no last date for this scheme
  4. Selection of JC Bose fellows will be made periodically by an empowered search-cum-selection committee specially appointed for the purpose

  2. Details of employment
  3. Professional recognition, awards, fellowships received
  4. Details of Bank e.g. account number, account holder name, IFSC code, and MICR code.
  5. Birth certificate if required
  6. Identity proof e.g. Aadhar card
  7. Equivalent Degree certificate e.g. ME, Ph.D
