West Bengal government has newly come up with ‘Khela Hobe’ programme for the encouraging the youth to take up sports. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is about to start the initiative today. Under this initiative the State Sports and Youth Affairs department will distribute about ore than 1 lakh footballs to various sporting clubs. The clubs registered with IFA will get 10 footballs each. The footballs to be distributed under this initiative will be handmade by refugee handicraft units in the state. These footballs will be made by M/s refugee handicrafts under the brand name JOYEE. This scheme aims at encouraging football as well as overall sporting activities in the state. It will create new job opportunities in the handicraft units as well as encourage sports in the state. CM has also announced to celebrate August 16 every year as ‘Khel Hobe Diwas’ thereby in the memory of 16 people who lost their lives in a stampede in the year 1980 at a match held in Eden Gardens.
