The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) scheme was started by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India in 1999. The objective of the scheme is to encourage students for career in the basic sciences research. Under the scheme students studying in class 11th till 1st year of any degree courses are identified, encouraged and motivated to take use the research careers in sciences.

Students interested in scientific research are groomed under the KVPY and are given fellowship. The students selected under the KVPY are given fellowship and grants for either 5 years from selection or till pre-Ph.D. levels (which ever is earlier). Summers camps are also organized in the prestigious and recognized research educational institutes in the Country for KVPY students. They can take part in the summer camp and take advantage of the facilities in those institutes for their research.

Department of Science & Technology is responsible for the implementation of the scheme. The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is given the responsibility of execution of the scheme. The DST has setup the management committee called National Advisory Committee (NAC). For day to task execution of the scheme a core committee is also setup.

  • Students studying in recognized colleges
  • Applicable to the students studying in India and Indian citizens only
  • Students of the distance/correspondence education are not eligible
  • OCI/PIO students will have to take up KVPY Aptitude Test 2018
  • Students studying in class 11th to 1st year of undergraduate program in basic sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Environmental Science or Geophysics)

  • SA/SX/SB Streams (during 1st to 3rd years of – B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math. / Integrated M.Sc. / M.S.)
    • Monthly Fellowship: Rs. 5000
    • Annual Contingency Grant: Rs. 20,000
  • SA/SX/SB  (during  M. Sc. / 4th to 5th  years of Integrated M.Sc. / M.S. / M.Math. /M.Stat.)
    • Monthly Fellowship: Rs. 7000
    • Annual Contingency Grant: Rs. 28,000

  • Caste certificate issued (for SC/ST students)
  • Medical certificate (for disabled students)
  • Scanned photograph and signature
  • Last examination mark sheets

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY): Selection Procedure

  • Aptitude Test: The students who fulfill eligibility criteria and has applied for the fellowship needs to pass aptitude test. The aptitude test is conducted in english and hindi across India
  • Interview: Successful candidate of the aptitude test will have to appear for the interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure

  • For General/OBC Category: Rs. 1000
  • For SC/ST/PWD: Rs. 500
  • NOTE: extra bank charges are applicable

STEP 2: Provide all the personal details along with  correct mobile number and email id and click on Register button

STEP 3: CLICK HERE to go to the login page, provide user ID and password and click on Login button

STEP 4: Provide all the academic details, choose test centers, upload the photo and signature along with certificates and mark sheets applicable

STEP 5: Pay online using Net Banking, Debit Card or Credit Card
