On February 15, 2021, CMO West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee launched ‘Maa Scheme’ for the urban poor across the state. Under this scheme food canteens will be started and the poor will be provided with lunch at a subsidized rate of Rs. 5. This scheme aims at providing food to each and everyone. The canteens will be run by the self-help groups with the help and assistance of the state government mainly the urban development and municipal department. This scheme is a big boon and relief to the poor and low-income group people in the urban areas across the state. Estimated annual expenditure on the scheme is Rs. 100 crores.
