Urban forest development scheme, 200 forests will be develop across various cities in India next five years

Government of India has announced a scheme “Nagar Van scheme” on the occasion of World Environment Day (WED), 5th June, 2020. Nagar Van scheme is lunched by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). The objective of the scheme is too grow forest in cities. The scheme mainly focuses on involvement of people along with Forest Department, Municipal bodies, NGOs, Corporate. They all need to work together to build up urban forest ecosystem. This scheme will be developed on the bases of “Warje Urban Forest” in Pune (Maharashtra).

Primarily scheme will be implemented on forest land in the city or the land provide by local bodies. Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) will provide funds for the scheme.

The scheme is based on and initiative under United Nation’s Environment Programme (UNEP). Union MoEFCC minister Shri Prakash Javadekar annunced the scheme. It will help in reviving ecology in cities. It will also help in reducing carbon/CO2. It will also help in developing biodiversity
