National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM)

National Digital Literacy Mission(NDLM) is to provide digital literacy to every Indian citizen and Making one person in every family digitally literate is one of the integral components of the Prime Minister’s vision of “Digital India”. The Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (DISHA) or National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) Scheme has been formulated to impart IT training to 52.5 lakh persons, including Anganwadi and ASHA workers and authorized ration dealers in all the States/UTs across the country so that the non-IT literate citizens are trained to become IT literate so as to enable them to actively and effectively participate in the democratic and developmental process and also enhance their livelihood. The Scheme is to be implemented in each State/ UT across the country. To make a person IT literate, so that he/ she can operate digital devices, like mobile phones, tablets, etc., send and receive emails and search Internet for information, etc.  the main objective of National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) is to empower rural communities with capacity building & training programmes and make them digitally literate, To facilitate deployment of rural citizen services through digital means, To create a digital data house at every rural community level to make them economically viable, To generate social, cultural and economic advantages for rural communities with two information and content gateway

Benefits of National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM):

  • 75% of course fee for General category trainees (25% of the course fee to be borne by trainees).
  • 100% of course fee for SC/ ST and BPL category trainees
  • Certificates will be issued to successful candidates

Aim of National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM):

  1. To make a person IT literate, so that he/ she can operate digital devices, like mobile phones, tablets, etc., send and receive emails and search the Internet for information, etc.

Eligibility Criteria for National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM):

  1. One person in the age group of 14 to 60 years from every household which is digitally illiterate would become eligible for consideration under the Scheme
  2. For Level 1 training: Non-IT literate – Illiterate and up to 7th standard pass
  3. For Level 2 training: Non-IT literate with at least 8th standard pass

Implementation of National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM):

  1. NGOs, Industry, Government authorized centers, Common Services Centers (CSCs) and authorized educational institutions with appropriate infrastructure will be utilized to train and empower ten lakh citizens on IT literacy in select Gram Panchayat/ Blocks/ Districts of each State/ UT. The training will be held at various training locations including CSCs, Adult Literacy Centers, NIELIT Centers, RSETI, NGOs involved in IT Literacy, etc
