Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India has invited application for National Overseas Scholarship for ST Students for academic year 2017-18 to 2019-20. The students interested in pursuing higher education or PhD are requested to apply. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the students for higher studies. 20 students from ST category will be given the scholarship. The National Overseas Scholarship award is given on the basis of the GRE/GMAT/TOFEL etc. Priority is given to the students who has secured preliminary letter/offer of admission and second preference will be given who has cleared the exams and has started applying in various universities/colleges.
Category-wise distribution:
- Scheduled Tribes: 17
- Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups: 3
- Reserved for girls: 6 (given to boys in case of insufficient applications)
- In case of insufficient applications then the scholarship will be open to other category students
Education sector-wise distribution:
- Engineering, Management, Economics & Finance: 7 slots
- Pure & Applied Sciences: 3 slots
- Agriculture and Medicine: 5 slots
- Humanity & Social Sciences: 5 slots

Duration of the financial assistance under the National Overseas Scholarship:
- Post-Doctoral Research: 1 & 1/2 years
- Ph. D: 4 years
- Master`s Degree: 1/2/3 years
Eligibility criteria for National Overseas Scholarship:
- Only students from ST category who wants to pursive higher education can apply
- Minimum Qualification:
- For Post-Doctoral: min 55% marks in Master`s Degree & PhD along with 5 years experience in research/training or corporate
- For PhD: min 55% marks in Master`s Degree along with 2 years experience in research/training or corporate
- For Master`s Degree: min 55% marks in Bachelor`s Degree along with 2 years experience in research/training or corporate
- Age: the applicant should be below 35 years of age on the 1st July of application year
- Total family income of the applicant should not be more than Rs. 6 lakh
- Only one child in the family can apply for the scholarship
