Medical Education Minister, Karnataka, Dr. K. Sudhakar, announced the approval of Karnataka government to bring the teaching and non-teaching staff in the Medical Education Department under the New Pension Scheme. Considering the crucial service provided by the doctors in the covid crisis, government agreed to sanction the scheme keeping aside the financial crunch faced by the government due to the pandemic. Around 5,949 medical staff working on permanent basis in 27 institutes will be benefited under the scheme.

Scheme Objectives and Benefits:
- The main objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance by the way of pension
- It aims to provide benefit to all the permanent staff in government affiliated medical, dental colleges and super specialty hospitals
- The scheme will provide the pension benefit to about 5949 employees across the state
- Under this scheme a financial security will be provided to the medical staff for post-retirement phase.
