Central government is extended a scheme “Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana” (प्रधानमंत्री गरीब कल्याण अन्न योजना). 80 crore poor people will get benefits of the scheme. Government will be distributing monthly free ration to all the beneficiaries till November (Diwali and Chhath puja). Monthly free ration will include 5 kgs of wheat or rice and 1 kg pulses (whole chana). This scheme has lunched on March 2020 during lock down but it is extended till November to empower the poor and needy. Rs 1.5 lakh crore is the total implementation cost of the scheme.

Government has lunched number of schemes for poor and needy during lock down such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan and so on. These all schemes for poor, returnee migrants people to support them to come out from critical pandemic situation. The scheme was announced initially when lock down started. The scheme is now extended till November to provide food security to poor families.
