PTG Dakiya Scheme for Primitive Tribal Groups in Jharkhand

The state Government of Jharkhand (Food and Civil Supplies Department) has launched a free rice scheme for primitive tribal groups (PTG) called as PTG Dakia Yojana. In Jharkhand state, Eight tribes are under primitive tribal groups (PTG) and they are Asur, Birhor, Birajia, Korwa, Parahiya (Baiga), Sabar, Mal Pahariya and Souriya Pahariya. Under this scheme, state government provides 35 kg package of rice per month to the primitive tribal groups (PTG) in Jharkhand. The food grains provided door-to-door by the government employees of Food and Civil Supplies Department in Jharkhand. The scheme is started firstly in three districts including, Godda, Sahebganj and Palamu and more than 70,000 (Primitive Tribal Group) PTG families will get benefits under this scheme. For the packaging of the rice, women self-help groups will manage the work of creating rice packets which would help to make them financially strong. The Jharkhand government deicide to give them only rice and not wheat. Because primitive tribal groups (PTG) only prefers rice in their diet. The government took initiative for distributing food grains to PTG families because literacy rate amongst PTG is really low and their monthly income is near about Rs.1000 per month.
