On January 20, 2021, CMO Assam Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal along with Finance Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma launched Redesigned Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (Re-SWAYEM) scheme at an event in Amingaon, Guwahati. The main aim of the scheme is to encourage and provide assistance to the youths of the state to take up new self-employment options or income generating activities. It will enable the state’s youth to develop skills, take up entrepreneurship and become Aatmanirbhar. A total of Rs. 1000 crore is sanctioned for the implementation of the redesigned scheme.

- Initially the SWAYEM scheme was launched in the year 2017 but due to some issues it could not cover all the targeted beneficiaries.
- The newly launched redesigned scheme aims at providing self-employment opportunities to the targeted youth of 2 lakhs in the state
- Under this scheme, Rs. 50,000 will be provided to each beneficiary by the government
- Applicant will be eligible if he’s a permanent resident of Assam and is below 40 years of age
- Apart from this he/she be a member of self-help groups/ joint liability groups and should not be defaulter of any loan.
- The amount will be provided as seed/ working capital for the business venture
- There will be no processing charges on the same
- It aims at making the youth self-reliant thereby empowering them
- This will encourage new youths to take up self-employment and working capital requirements will be fulfilled of the existing ones planning to expand their business
- It focuses mainly on the rural economy and aims at taking a step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
