To provide financial assistance and security to the families who lost their bread earner due to covid-19

On May 26, 2021, Jammu & Kashmir administration launched a new scheme named Special Assistance Scheme for Covid Mortalities (SASCM) for providing assistance to the families who lost their sole bread earner due to covid. Second wave of covid pandemic has affected a lot many families adversely and thus this scheme is launched to support and provide financial security to them. Under this scheme in case of death of the bread earner due to covid the spouse and eldest family member will get a financial assistance of Rs. 1000 per month. Scholarship of Rs. 20,000 per annum will be provided to the school going students in such family and Rs. 40,000 per annum will be provided to the college going students under this scheme. In this crucial period, this scheme will provide social and financial security to the family members who lost their sole bread earner.

Objectives and Benefits:

  • The main objective of these schemes is to assist the families in case of death of the sole bread earner due to covid

  • Under this scheme in case of death of the bread earner due to covid the spouse and eldest family member will get a financial assistance of Rs. 1000 per month.
  • Scholarship of Rs. 20,000 per annum will be provided to the school going students in such family and Rs. 40,000 per annum will be provided to the college going students
  • Financial assistance for self-employment of any member who wishes to start his/ her small business for earning a livelihood

  • This scheme was launched by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday, May 26, 2021
  • Under this scheme all the families across the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir who lost their bread earner to covid will be covered
  • This scheme aims to provide all sort of financial and social security to the families in case of such unprecedented event of death
  • Under this scheme the government will provide the spouse and eldest family member will get a financial assistance of Rs. 1000 per month.
  • Scholarship of Rs. 20,000 per annum will be provided to the school going students in such family and Rs. 40,000 per annum will be provided to the college going students
  • In case of 2 children, both the children will be covered if they are not getting any other scholarship
  • Financial assistance for self-employment of any member who wishes to start his/ her small business for earning a livelihood
  • A Special Cell has been created in the Social and Welfare Department for keeping a track of the affected families to be covered under the scheme
  • It will ensure all the affected families will mandatory be covered without missing on anyone
  • Measures will be taken to check the eligibility of the family for other existing schemes of the government for assistance
  • Government aims at taking proper care and supporting the affected families in this crucial period
  • It will provide social and financial security to the family members for a long term thereby ensuring their welfare.
