To provide medical assistance through special medical camps to maintain health-life balance of people in the state.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin relaunched Varumun Kappom scheme for all the residents in the state on September 29, 2021. This is a preventive health care scheme which was earlier launched in 2006 but was later discontinued. Under this scheme now about 1250 special medical camps in one year. These camps will be held in various places in the state for the residents in villages, districts, municipal corporations and other. The medical camps will have 17 departments and provide consultations, screening of various ailments and medical care free of cost. Specialized screening for pregnant mothers and lactating women will also be made available at the camps. Through this scheme the state government tends to ensure health and safety of the citizens through early diagnosis and treatment of ailments. It will turn out as a boon for the people who are not able to afford medical check-ups and treatments.

Scheme Details:

  • On September 29, 2021, Tamil Nadu state Chief Minister M K Stalin relaunched Varumun Kappom scheme.
  • This scheme was earlier launched in the year 2006 by the former CM M Karuna Nidhi.
  • This scheme was active till 2011 and was discontinued then due to some reason.
  • Under this newly relaunched preventive medical care scheme medical camps will be conducted at various places in the state.
  • Under this scheme the state government will make efforts to help people get medical consultation, check-up, screening, treatment, etc., free of cost.
  • The state government will conduct bout 1250 special medical camps at various places in one year.
  • Each taluka in the state will have three medical camps, municipal corporations will have four medical camps in a year.
  • The camps will have 17 different departments.
  • Medical authorities will provide Clinical examination for eyes, teeth, paediatric care, diabetes, high blood pressure, bone diseases, tuberculosis, heart diseases, oncology, kidney diseases, etc., at the camps.
  • Treatment and medicines will also be provided free of cost.
  • In case of requirement of continuous treatment id cards will be issued with the details of nearby hospitals for treatment.
  • Patient details will be recorded at the camps for follow up.
  • Schedule and location of medical camps will be announced district wise every month.
