Union Minister of Human Resource Development (Government of India) Mr. Prakash Javadekar has launched the Vidya Veerta Abhiyan on 2nd may in New Delhi. This campaign started to have a ‘Wall of Valour’ in 1,000 educational institutions across the country. In this campaign, Portraits of Param Vir Chakra (PVC) decorated soldiers will be displayed at designated places on educational campuses to instill a sense of nationalism & to help create a spirit of respect for real heroes. During the inauguration ceremony, the portraits of Param Veer Chakra decorated soldiers handed over to the Vice Chancellors of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islamia, Jammu and IIT Delhi, among others, to put it in their educational institutions. Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is the highest gallantry award for officers and other enlisted personnel of all military branches of India for the highest degree of valor in the presence of the enemy. Introduced on 26th January 1950, this award may be given posthumously. Literally, Param Vir Chakra means ‘Wheel (or Cross) of the Ultimate Brave’. In Sanskrit, ‘Param means Ultimate, ‘Vir (Pronounced veer) means Brave and ‘Chakra means Wheel

- Revive and re-energize the patriotic fervor in our young minds
- Organizing of such events help in changing atmosphere in our colleges and universities
- Revive the patriotic feeling in our youth
Features of Vidya-Veerta Abhiyan:
- Universities & educational institutions across the country will have a “wall of heroes”
- Portraits of Param Vir Chakra (PVC) decorated soldiers will be displayed at designated places on educational campuses to instill a sense of nationalism
- Wall of valor will be 15X20 feet in size and will depict the portraits of all the 21 Paramveer Chakra recipients
- The idea of having a wall of martyrs in universities was first proposed by a group of ex-servicemen who said portraits of martyrs and tanks used in wars should be put on display in the campus to instill sense of “nationalism” and “patriotism” among the students
