The Banishree Scholarship Scheme for Children with Special Needs is started by Odisha State Government (Ministry of Women and Child Development) to provide financial assistance to the Special child for pursuing education. Under this scheme, the state Govt. provides scholarships to children with special needs studying in schools from primary to University level including those pursuing technical and vocational education. Besides the above, the in-plant trainees of the Vocational Rehabilitation Center (VRC), Bhubaneswar are also provided with scholarship. The main purpose of the scholarship to the students with special needs is to assist and encourage them to study as well as acquire technical/professional/vocational training so as to enable them to earn a living and to become useful members of society.
Benefits of Banishree Scholarship Scheme for Children with Special Needs:
- Banishree Scholarship Scheme for Children with Special Needs provides benefits in the form of financial assistance for pursuing education from primary to University level. Rate of financial is mentioned below
- Primary School (Class I to V): Rs. 200 per month
- Middle & High School (Class V to X): Rs. 250 per month
- College (+2 and +3 level): Rs. 300 per month
- College (PG level): Rs. 350 per month
- Technical a Vocational Training: Rs. 350 per month
- Technical & Vocational Courses outside the state: Rs. 350 per month
- Reader’s allowance shall be paid at Rs. 100 per month for primary classes and Rs. 150 per month for middle and high school classes and Rs. 200 per month for other studies
- Monthly allowance of 100 per month may be sanctioned for transport who has 75% or above disabilities
- Students who are studying outside state shall get Rs. 250 per month
Required eligibility and conditions for applying Banishree Scholarship Scheme for Children with Special Needs:
- The applicant must be bonafide resident of Orissa
- The applicant should be a regular student of educational institution
- The parental/ family income of the applicant is not more than Rs. 60,000 per annum
- The applicant is not receiving any financial assistance/stipend/scholarship from State Govt./ Central Govt. under any other scheme
Document required for applying Banishree Scholarship Scheme for Children with Special Needs:
- Disability Certificate issued by Medical Board
- Income Certificate issued by Revenue Officer, not below the rank of Tahsildar or any other officer of equivalent status
- Mark-sheets of the last examination passed duly attested by the Head of the Institution
- Aadhar card
- Bank Details e.g. Account number, Account holder name, IFSC code, MICR code
- Residence proof e.g. Certificate form residence authority
- Domicile certificate
- BPL ration card (If available)

- The students desiring to avail scholarship will collect application forms from the head of school/ college/ educational institution or from the concerned Sub-Collector/ BDO, and submit the same after duly filling into the head of institutions immediately after taking admission
