Government will soon implement Cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims

Under this scheme, the government will be providing free/ cashless treatment to the road accident victims up to Rs. 2.5 L. This scheme covers all Indians as well as foreign nationals in case of such mishaps. It provides for immediate medical help as necessary.

The blueprint is ready now the Centre has sought feedback from all Chief Secretaries on this proposed plan till 10th July. A letter written by the Ministry of Transport in its address to the states stated that the central government would formulate a scheme for cashless treatment of victims of road accidents and such a scheme may have a provision to create a fund for the treatment of victims.

The road transport ministry has included the National Health Authority (NHA), which is implementing Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) to process the claims raised by hospitals after treating the injured and will use its robust IT platform to run the scheme. The ministry will set up a Motor Vehicle Relief Fund with its own contribution and also from the General Insurance Company (GIC).

Account will be created under road ministry. This account will be used to finance trauma care hospitalization and treatment

PM-JAY is implementing by 32 of 36 states/union territories. Around 13 crore families will get benefits of the scheme. Moreover, the policy aims to bring relief to the poor who can’t pay the hospital bills for medical care in times of road accidents and mishaps
