The Science and Engineering Research Board under Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India has started award called as Distinguished Investigator Award for researchers who excel in the SERB projects. The objective of the award is to encourage good work in the field of science and technology projects carried out by the SERB. Researchers working on such projects are called as Principal Instigators.
Scope of Distinguished Investigator Award (SERB-DIA):
- Principal Investigators (PI) who has preformed exceptional in their SERB projects and are rated Excellent
- SERB DIA is a one time award
- The PI who receives the award are called as SERB-DIA Fellow
- The SERB project is called as SERB-DIA Project
- Completed projects under schemes such as SERB-ECRA and individual centric schemes of DST in subsequent years
Distinguished Investigator Award Eligibility:
- Applicants who have completed SERB EMR project in the last financial year who`s project is rated Excellent
- Only PI`s are eligible and co-PIs are not eligible
- Applicants must be in regular job
- PIs who have already received awards such as JC Bose Fellowship, Shanti, Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, INSPIRE Faculty, Ramanujan, Ramalingaswami and Postdoctoral Fellows etc are also not eligible
Distinguished Investigator Award Benefits:
- Fellowship of Rs. 15,000 per month for 3 years
- Research grant of 3 years will be provided which is optional
- The PI need to choose between fellowship or research grant

- List of publications along with reprints of publications
- List of patents and documents
- Documents related to technology transfer
- Endorsement certiticate
- Certificate from PI
Distinguished Investigator Award (SERB DIA): How to Apply Online?
STEP 1: Go to SERB official application website http://serbonline.in/SERB/Registration.do
STEP 2: Register yourself, provide your personal, educational and employment details
STEP 3: Login and go to Menu > Proposal Submission > Form Submission
STEP 4: PI who opt for Fellowship ONLY need to fill in details of the completed project, PIs who opt for Fellowship and Resarch Grant needs to fill in details of the New Research Proposal along with Completed Project Details
STEP 5: Provide project details such as title, summery, details etc
STEP 6: Submit your application and download the confirmation for future references
