Kerala government has come up with ‘Doorstep Assistance scheme’ for assisting the aged, bedridden, destitute and disabled people in the state. This scheme was announced by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 12, 2021. Under this scheme the state government tends to ensure that various services like delivery of emergency medicines, social security pension, lifetime certificate, preparation of application for assistance from CM Disaster Relief Fund, etc., at their doorstep. The government is planning to add more services under this scheme. It intends to help the beneficiaries who are not able to visit outside, by providing the services at their homes. This scheme will assist the beneficiaries to get the services and necessary medicines at the ease their homes in the state.

Scheme Details:

- This scheme is planned for the welfare of aged, bedridden, destitute and disabled people in the state,
- Under this scheme the beneficiaries get the services like delivery of emergency medicines, social security pension, lifetime certificate, preparation of application for assistance from CM Disaster Relief Fund, palliative care etc., at their doorstep.
- These services will be provided to the beneficiaries through Local government institutions, Asha workers and Volunteers under the chairmanship of the ward member.
- The government will issue cards with phone numbers of the committee members
- These cards will be given to the public and they can reach out to the committee as required
- Asha workers will contact the beneficiaries to understand her services required
- Akshaya centers and volunteers will assist the Asha workers
- This scheme will start in the month of September, 2021.
- It will be first start in 50 local bodies in the state.
- Then based on the performance and success of the scheme it will further extend to the entire state.
- This distribution of free services at the doorstep of the beneficiaries will be reviewed and monitored at regular intervals at district level.
- District collector and District Planning Committee will play a crucial role in monitoring the activities in implementation.
- This scheme will provide assistance and ensure welfare of the beneficiaries in the state.
