The new chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has decided to provide free electric connection to the below poverty line (BPL) families. In this scheme, the government provides free electricity by installing a new thermal meter in the house of BPL families in Uttar Pradesh. The government also provides equal opportunity to the above poverty line (APL) families by paying easy monthly installment in rural or urban areas for taking electricity connections. The scheme has aims to restrict those people who take illegal connection for the domestic use and for the commercial use of the electricity. With this step, it helps to reduce illegal connection and benefits to those people who want the legal connection for domestic as well as commercial use. This scheme also helps invalid power/connection converted to the valid connection for consumers. The electricity connections given without any discrimination of caste or religion and will provide based on latest Socio-Economic Census data. The newly formed government in Uttar Pradesh has taken very good initiative for the BPL and APL family

Eligibility for Free Electricity Connection Scheme:
- Applicant should be resident of Uttar Pradesh
- BPL families are eligible for free electricity connection
- APL families are eligible for EMI option

- Voter ID Card
- Previous Information or record of the Electricity connection
- BPL Ration Card
- Income certificate
