Haryana Deen Dayal Navjat Shishu Suraksha Yojana / Zero Home Delivery Campaign: to reduce infant mortality & to provide baby kits to new borns

The Haryana Government launched Deen Dayal Navjat Shishu Suraksha Yojana (DDNSSY) to provide baby kits to the new born in the state and also launched Zero Home Delivery Campaign to reduce infant mortality due to babies delivered at homes instead of hospitals. Many infants and mothers die in Haryana due to deliveries done at home. Many in the state still prefer home delivery of babies which is a major cause of fatalities amongst new born and mothers. The objective of DDNSSY and the Zero Home Delivery Campaign is to encourage people in the state for delivery in the public recognized hospitals under the supervision of the qualified doctors and nurses.

Haryana Deen Dayal Navjat Shishu Suraksha Yojana Highlights:

  • Baby kits will be distributed to the newborns in the Haryana
  • The scheme will benefit 2.9 lakh newborns in the state every year and it is expected to cost 32.09 crores annually
  • Scheme is expected to encourage deliveries in the public hospitals rather than deliveries at home by “Daai”
  • To reduce infant and mothers mortality during birth
  • Launched on the birth anniversary of RSS leader Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya who was orphan at the age of eight
  • Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya lived in misery and was poor went on to become mass leader
  • The scheme is launched by the Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij
  • The scheme will be implemented by Haryana Government under National Health Mission (NHM)

Deen Dayal Navjat Shishu Suraksha Yojana Benefits:

  • Maternal and newborn care kits will be distributed under the scheme
  • Promotes hygiene and sanitation among mothers and newborns
  • It will be of great help to poor families in Haryana who cannt afford to buy dress, diapers and sanitizer or soap for the care of newborn

DDNSSY Eligibility:

  • All the mothers and newborns born in public hospitals are eligible

Deen Dayal Navjat Shishu Suraksha Yojana Objectives:

  • To end preventable deaths in children under five years of age and newborns
  • To reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births
  • To reduce mortality to as low as 25 per thousands kids under five years of age

Deen Dayal Navjat Shishu Suraksha Yojana Kit: The kit for mothers and newborn contains 16 items as mentioned below:

  • towels
  • napkins
  • newborn dress
  • diapers
  • soap of bathing
  • blanket
  • mosquito net
  • baby cap
  • socks
  • pack of wipes
  • sanitizers
  • soap for hand washing
  • kangaroo mother care gown for mothers
  • nail cutter for the newborn
  • toys
  • moisturizer

Zero Home Delivery Campaign:

  • A campaign by Haryana Government to promote institutional deliveries in the state
  • Goal is to achieve 100% delivery of babies in the recognized hospitals
  • After the launch of the campaign the delivery percentage increased to 91.1%
  • The increase in the deliveries in the hospitals is observed in Sirsa, Palwal,Mahendergarh, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, Nuh and Bhiwani districts
