Odisha Government has launched Khusi Scheme (Free sanitary napkins / pads distribution scheme) for the girl students in Odisha. The scheme is aimed at creating awareness about & improve menstrual hygiene among adolescent girl students in the state. Government has alloted budget of Rs. 446 crore for five years for the scheme. 17.25 lakh girls studying in class 6th & 7th in government & non-government schools in Odisha are the beneficiaries of the scheme.

The primary objective of the scheme is to increase awareness about the women health related issues & also to reduce girl`s drop-out rates.

- 18 free belt-less sanitary pads every month to be given to the girl students
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicable only in Odisha
- Applicable only to the students of 6th & 7th class girl students only
- All the government, non-government aided schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas & Jawaharlal Navodaya Vidyalayas will be covered under the scheme

The scheme is approved in the recent cabinet meeting headed by the Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik. The free sanitary pads distribution scheme will be implemented by the School and Mass Education, Scheduled Tribe & Scheduled Caste Development and Minorities & Backward Classes, & Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Departments.
