Minimum Support Price for Kharif Crops Hiked New MSP for Cotton, Tur, Moong, Urad

The Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi led Government of India has approved Minimum Support Price Hike for Karif Crops. The decision was taken to increase farmer`s income and to support them financially. The government`s objective is to provide 1.5 times returns of the production cost to the farmers. This was the Narendra Modi`s election promise and ask by the farmer communities across India. The decision was taken by the cabinet to increases the production of Kharif crops in the season 2018-19. The government increases MSPs of various crops by Rs 200 per quintal at list. The MSP hike will cost Rs. 15,000 cores to the government.

The Finance Minister Shree Arun Jeitely has announced that the farmers will be given good prices for their crops in the Budget 2018-19. The MSPs for various crops are revised by Rs. 50 and Rs. 80 for last couple of years but this hike is a lot more in comparison to the last couple of hikes. The central government price advisory committee Commision for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP)  decides the costs for the crops.

The new hiked MSP for Kharif crops as follows:

  • Paddy(Dhaan)
    • Old Price: Rs 1500 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 1750 per quintal
  • Cotton(Medium Staple)
    • Old Price: Rs 4020 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 5150 per quintal
  • Cotton(Long Staple)
    • Old Price: Rs 4320 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 5450 per quintal
  • Tur
    • Old Price: Rs 5450 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 5675 per quintal
  • Moong
    • Old Price: Rs 5575 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 6975 per quintal
  • Urad
    • Old Price: Rs 5400 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 5600 per quintal
  • Soybean
    • Old Price: Rs 3050 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 3399 per quintal
  • Groundnut
    • Old Price: Rs 4450 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 4890 per quintal
  • Sunflower
    • Old Price: Rs 4100 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 5388per quintal
  • Sesamum
    • Old Price: Rs 5300 per quintal
    • New Price: Rs 6249 per quintal
  • Niger Seed
    • Old Price: Rs 4050 per quintal
