The Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a scheme called Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar or Saubhagya Yojana which will provide free electricity to the poor in India The scheme is launched on the occasion of birthday of Pandit Din Dayal Upadhyaya in ONGC Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi. The Saubhagya Yojana is a package of electricity, employment and health benefits for the people leaving below poverty lines.
Close to 3 crore families leaving under poverty lines across the country will get free electricity connection along with free electricity five years with the Sahaj Bijali Har Ghar Yojana. Government will also provide 5 LED bulb and a fan too.
The government will be setting up camps for enrollment to the scheme and the enrollments will begin before Diwali. All the villages where electrification is yet to happen such villeges will get solar packs. Rupees 16530 crore are allocated to the scheme out of which 14525 crore rupees will be spent in the villeges alone. The centre government will spend 60%, state governments to allocate 30% and the rest will be taken as loans from banks. Government is targeting March 31st 2019 to achieve the goal of the Saubhagya Scheme.
