Under Jammu & Kashmir State Rural Livelihood Mission (JKSRLM), the government started UMEED scheme for generating livelihood opportunities for rural youth. It is a centre sponsored scheme. This scheme aims at reducing poverty and helping the poor to live a better life. Recently UMEED has newly started an all-women dairy Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO) at Mitrigam in Pulwama district. This is a new initiative aims for providing livelihood opportunities to women thereby making them self-reliant. Under this scheme all the dairy farm activities will only be handled by women thereby providing them an opportunity to use their full potential and be empowered.

• The main objective of the scheme is to help the rural poor across J&K
• This scheme aims at providing livelihood opportunities for the rural poor
• Under this scheme various projects and initiatives will be undertaken for rural welfare
• Recently an all-women dairy Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO) is started for providing livelihood opportunities to the women whereby all the activities from administration to dairy activities will all be handled by women only
• This will provide an opportunity to bring out the full potential and will empower them
• This scheme provides opportunity to earn and become self-reliant
• It ensures welfare of the rural poor and gives them a chance to lead their lives out of poverty
• It increases the quality of lives of the poor thus ensuring economic development in the long run
