National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS)

This scholarship scheme intends to help the poor meritorious students in their study at secondary stage.

Central government has started National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) in the country in the year 2008. This scheme is launched to support the meritorious poor students in the country. It intends to help the students continue their education at secondary stage. Under this scheme scholarship of Rs. 12000/- per annum is being allotted to each eligible student studying in Class 9th to 12th. This initiative intends to reduce the student drop-out rates and encourage them to study further. Financial help under this scheme will lessen the burden of education expenses on the students and their families. On February 22, 2022 Ministry of Education increased the parental income ceiling from Rs 1.5 lakhs to Rs 3.5 lakhs per annum and approved the continuation of NMMSS till the year 2025-26.

Benefits:

  • Under this scheme scholarship amount of Rs 12000 per annum (Rs 1000 per month) will be given t each eligible student.
  • This initiative is mainly to support all the students from poor financial background.
  • The students studying in Class 9th to 12th are covered under this scheme.
  • Scholarship amount is directly transferred electronically to student bank account through PFMS.
  • The scheme will enable the students to continue education without any financial hindrance.
  • This financial assistance will help the poor meritorious students in the state to continue education at secondary stage without having financial constraints.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant student must be a citizen of India.
  • Annual income of the applicant student’s family must not be more than 3.5 lakhs.
  • He/ she must take admission in approved courses on a whole time basis in India only.
  • He/ she must get clear promotion from class 8th to class 9th with minimum 55% marks.

How to Apply:

  • Visit the official website @ education.gpv.in.
  • Go through the pdf with relevant details regarding NMMSS.
  • Then visit the official National Scholarship Portal @scholarships.gov.in.
  • Start with new registration and then login.
  • Fill in the required details in the scholarship form and upload required documents in prescribed format.
  • Preview and submit the form.
  • Application will be verified and eligible students will get the eligible scholarship amount in their bank accounts.
  • Students can renew the application annually.
  • Application forms may also be filled offline through respective schools.

Selection Process:

  • Mental Ability Test (MAT) – MCQ format; 90 MCQs; 90 minutes time duration
  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) – MCQ format; 90 MCQs; 90 minutes time duration
