Uttar Pradesh state government has started ‘UP Smartphone Tablet Scheme’ for youth in the state under the digital shakti initiative. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched this scheme on December 25, 2021 marking the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna recipients former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. Under this scheme the state government will provide free laptops and smartphones to youth in the state along with facility of digital access and content free of cost. This scheme will promote digital education. It aims at infusing technology in the modes of studying which will benefit students. It will ensue technical and digital empowerment of students. This scheme intends to benefit about one crore youth of the state. Total budgeted outlay for this scheme is Rs. 3000 crores.

Eligibility:
- The applicant student must be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.
- He/ she must be studying in Graduation/ PG/ Technical/ Diploma in a government or private school.
- Annual income of the applicant’s family must be Rs. 200000 or less.

Application Process:
- Visit the official website @digishakti.up.gov.in.
- Go through the details of the initiative on the portal.
- Students are not required to apply through any link themselves.
- Student data of eligible students will be provided to the government by the respective schools/ colleges.
- After verification the eligible students will be provided with smartphone/ tablet.
- Eligible students will get necessary updates on their mobile numbers.
