Balasaheb Thackeray Smruti Matoshree Gram Panchayat Bandhani Yojana: construction of Gram Panchayat buildings in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra cabinet announced Balasaheb Thackeray Smruti Matoshree Gram Panchayat Bandhani Yojana to fund construction of Gram Panchayat buildings in Maharashtra. According to the Rural Development officials the scheme will benefit 4,252 gram panchayats.

Villages with less than 1000 population to get Rs. 12 lakh.

All the villages with less than 1000 population in Maharashtra who doesn’t have Gram Panchayat building will get Rs. 12 lakh where as all those villeges with population between 1000-2000 will get Rs. 18 lakh for the construction. Villages with more than 2000 population can build the Gram Panchayat building with public private partnership (PPP).

The Maharashtra government will provide 90% of the funds where as Gram Panchayat needs to bare 10% cost of the construction. To apply for the Balasaheb Thackeray Smruti Matoshree Gram Panchayat Bandhani Yojana the Gram Sabha needs to pass a resolution saying that they want to opt for the scheme. The villages with population between 1000-2000 needs to try twice for public private partnership before they apply for the scheme only then government will get involved and provide funds to build the Gram Panchayats.

Government to spend Rs. 440 crore in next 4 years.

The state government has already spent 25 crore on the scheme and is expected to spend Rs. 440 crores over next 4 years on the Balasaheb Thackeray Smruti Matoshree Gram Panchayat Bandhani Yojana.
