The Delhi Government has launched a new scheme for patients with kidney failure requiring dialysis called Free Dialysis Treatment Scheme. The scheme will provide free dialysis to the kidney patients in Delhi and is applicable to the economically backward and weaker sections in Delhi. The free dialysis scheme will be implemented as part of the Delhi government’s ‘Arogya Kosh’. The scheme provides much required relief to the poor people and families with health issues. The Delhi Government has already has a scheme for free treatment along with medicines and diagnostic tests. The patients can go to government and some of the selected private hospitals which has more than 10 dialysis machines to avail the free dialysis.
The Delhi Government has already installed 15 dialysis machine in government hospitals and is planning to install 55 more very soon using public private partnership (PPP) model. The Delhi Health Minister said that the government is looking for hospitals which would provide dialysis for Rs. 1,274 and government will reimburse the amount. Such eligible hospitals will be identified by the government and will be empanelled with the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) or Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme (DGEHS). The Delhi Government also has scheme to provide free medicines, MRI tests and ultrasound tests to patients in Delhi.
Free Dialysis Treatment Scheme: Eligibility
- Patients who are residents of Delhi only are eligible
- The scheme is applicable only for BPL patients with annual family income less than Rs. 3 lakh
- For non-BPL patients they will get subsidy and they will be charged Rs 1,274 only for the free dialysis. The actual cost of dialysis is Rs. 4,000
