Digital revolution through high speed internet connectivity and various digital services in villages

PMO India, Hon. Mr. Narendra Modi launched Ghar Tak Fibre scheme via video conferencing on September 21, 2020. This scheme is mainly for boosting digital infrastructure in the villages across India. It is currently implemented in Bihar. Optical fibre internet service will connect over 45,945 villages in Bihar under this scheme. It is undertaken by Common Service Centres (CSC) under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).  It is a scheme aiming at digital revolution in villages.

Scheme Details:

  • Ghar Tak Fibre scheme is launched by the Central government for digital transformation of villages
  • PMO India, Hon. Narendra Modi announced the scheme via video conferencing in Bihar
  • Bihar Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi were also present at the virtual launch event
  • Under the scheme, optical fibre internet services will be provided to about 45,945 villages in the state
  • 8900 Gram panchayats will also be connected through the optical fibre net service, FTTH broadband internet connectivity
  • High speed internet in villages will be a benefit under this scheme
  • One public Wi-Fi hotspot will be created in every village
  • Households can buy FTTH (Fibre To The Home) connection for personal use
  • All these services will be provided by Common Service Centres (CSCs) in villages under the BharatNet initiative
  • This scheme aims at digital transformation and spread of high-speed internet connection across the villages
