The Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana is started by Odisha State Government (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) for rural development. The main aim of the scheme is developed in rural areas which are necessary for social justice, economic upliftment and inclusive growth of the entire State, the Government has launched a state-funded scheme called the Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana during 2006-07 to ensure greater flow of funds to rural areas in social sectors, like housing, road development, water supply and electrification of villages/habitations. The Panchayat Raj Department, Government of Odisha has been identified as the nodal department for implementation of the scheme.
Benefits of Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana:
- Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana provides benefits in the form of development in rural areas. The benefits are mentioned below
- Under this scheme financial assistance is provided to the district for infrastructure consisting of bijli, Sadak and pani (i.e., electrification, roads and water supply) to every revenue village in the identified districts in a need-based manner
- With the introduction of this scheme, rural connectivity and quality of rural life would be undergone tremendous change
- Once scheme is implemented then there will be rural electrification, construction of rural roads and provision of water supply
- Construction of rural roads, both inter-village and intra village, in order to further strengthen rural connectivity in the targeted districts is to be done
Required eligibility and conditions for applying Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana:
- There is no eligibility and condition this scheme is introduced for rural development so that rural population of the targeted districts of the state considered as beneficiary under this scheme
- But implementation of scheme requires some norms to be fulfilled like villages with a population of below 500 persons are given funds to the extent of Rs. 2 lakh each, Villages with population above 500 persons but less than or up to 1,000 persons are given 3 lakh each and villages with population above 1,000 persons are given Rs. 5 lakh each
Coverage of Scheme:
- The GGY scheme is being implemented in ten districts of Odisha, namely, Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jaipur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri, which are not covered under Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF)
